Dual-modality authentication combines the speed of facial recognition with the accuracy of iris recognition
Dual-modality authentication combines the speed of facial recognition with the accuracy of iris recognition
The new M2-DualID™ Access Control Unit combined face and iris dual modality camera offers a fast and accurate two stage authentication process. M2-DualID™ first uses facial recognition to leverage the speed and subject ease of use inherent in the technology and then uses iris recognition to provide the superb accuracy and resistance to false matches that only the iris modality can provide.
In authentication mode, M2-DualID™ initially searches for face images within the face operating range of about 60 to 100 cm. Once a subject’s face is in the proper position and detected by the camera, the device captures and encodes the face image which is then compared to the biometric template on file. If a match is found that meets the matching threshold, the system successfully authenticates the subject’s identity.
In order to minimize the face recognition false accepts, the M2-DualID™ Access Control Unit’s matching threshold is set to a very stringent value. While this results in a very high resistance to false accepts, there may be some level of authentication rejections dependent on the size of the population, lightning conditions, and other factors. If facial recognition of a subject is rejected, the M2-DualID™ Access Control Unit automatically switches to iris recognition mode as a second stage, and the subject is directed to move closer to the camera to follow the normal iris recognition process for accurate identification.
The entire process takes less than 5 seconds to perform and offers the highest possible identification accuracy of any hardware modality on the market. The facial image of the subject is captured and stored on file for use to authenticate when accessing any platform or mobile app with a smart device.
